Biography

Short Bio

Dr. Ping-Chun Hsieh is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU). Before joining NYCU, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher hosted by Professor P. R. Kumar in the Computer Engineering and Systems Group (CESG) at Texas A&M University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering under the supervision of Professor I-Hong Hou from Texas A&M University in August 2018. Prior to his Ph.D., he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering and his M.S. in Electronics Engineering from National Taiwan University in 2011 and 2013, respectively.

His research received the Best Paper Awards from ACM MobiHoc 2020 and ACM MobiHoc 2017. He is a recipient of NSTC 2030 Emerging Young Scholar Program (2030新秀學者計畫) in 2023, Junior Faculty Award (黃培城青年講座) from NYCU in 2020, Young Scholar Fellowship (愛因斯坦培植計畫) from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) in 2019, the Outstanding PhD Student Award from the ECE Department at Texas A&M University in 2016, and the Government Scholarship to Study Abroad from the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. He also received the Excellent Teaching Award (校級優良教學獎) from NYCU in 2022 and the Award for Excellent Teaching in English (資訊學院英語教學獎) from NYCU CS in both 2022 and 2023.

His research interests include reinforcement learning, multi-armed bandits, Bayesian optimization, and wireless networks (please see Initiative).
